Moscow Ballet will bring its “Great Russian Nutcracker” to Chattanooga for two performances Wednesday, Dec. 21, at the Tivoli Theatre.
The production earned praise from the Baltimore Sun for its “sheer splendor and elegant dancing,” and left Louisiana’s Shreveport Times declaring it a “brilliant” version that proves “all ‘Nutcrackers’ are not the same.”
With a mission of bringing internationally acclaimed Russian ballet to audiences in North America, Moscow Ballet debuted the “Great Russian Nutcracker” in 1993 with an all-star Russian cast directed and choreographed by Stanislav Vlasov, formerly of the Bolshoi Ballet.
The company typically visits 60 to 70 cities in the U.S. and Canada each year. Seventy to 80 Russian dancers are on the tour, half touring the West Coast and half touring the East Coast, simultaneously.
In addition to “Nutcracker,” the company performs several other classic story ballets, including “Cinderella,” “Swan Lake,” “Romeo and Juliet” and “Sleeping Beauty.”
Only single seats remain for the evening performance at the Tivoli. The afternoon performance was added due to the popularity of the show.
