ATHENS, Ga. – Quarterback Jacob Eason is on his third offensive coordinator with the Georgia Bulldogs, and he has yet to take his first snap in college.
The heralded five-star talent and early enrollee will soon be working under the guidance of coordinator Jim Chaney, who was hired in December by new head coach Kirby Smart. Chaney replaces Brian Schottenheimer, who lasted just one season after replacing Mike Bobo, who left after the 2014 season to become head coach at Colorado State.
Eason committed to the Bulldogs in July 2014, when Mark Richt was entering his 14th season at Georgia and Bobo his 14th as quarterbacks coach and eighth as coordinator for the Bulldogs.
“I went through them,” Eason said. “I went through Schotty. I went to Coach Chaney and Coach Smart. I went through a couple of different weight room guys as well.”
There is no better example of the need for college prospects to choose a school for the school itself than the 6-foot-5, 211-pounder from Lake Stevens, Wash. Just days after completing his senior season at Lake Stevens High School, in which he threw for 3,585 yards with 43 touchdowns and six interceptions, Eason learned his destination of choice had undergone a coaching upheaval.
