Police identify victims in horrific Highway 27 crash

A driver who was involved in a serious car accident that shut down Highway 27 for several hours this afternoon has died of her injuries and her passenger is currently in critical condition.

Sheree Morgan, 43, was driving with Robert Stephens, 32, riding in a Toyota sedan heading north on the highway when the car crossed the median and collided with a vehicle going in the opposite direction.

The driver of that vehicle was uninjured, but the Toyota was obliterated.

The original call came into dispatch at 1:50 p.m. and southbound traffic was entirely shut down while northbound traffic was reduced to one lane.

At 6:30 p.m. tonight Chattanooga Police tweeted that all lanes of traffic were back open.

Traffic investigators are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash and urge anyone with information about the incident to call 423-698-2525.
