A Valentine’s Dinner and Woman-Less Beauty Pageant is coming to Rock Spring United Methodist Church Feb. 13 at 6 p.m.
The dinner served will be chicken Marsala, pasta, Caesar salad, bread and dessert. It will be followed by an entertaining woman-less beauty pageant. Contestants in the pageant are Michael Bonner, Chris Whittle, Patrick Hunter, Raymond Kay and John Lane.
“It’s mostly comedy acts,” said Rock Spring UMC administrative assistant Tracey Strickland. “It will be hilarious.”
Tickets for the event are $25 each with proceeds benefiting the RSUMC Mission Team to Culebra, Puerto Rico, July 18-25. Tickets must be purchased by Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 4 p.m.
“We will be going on a mission to Culebra, Puerto Rico,” said Strickland. “It is a very small island. Our youth minister Brandon Neighbors and I went last year. There is only 1,800 on the island. Most of the residents have to go to the mainland to work. There’s a lot of work to be done. They can’t repair their homes. We will do minor repair work and construction on their homes.”
Strickland went with the mission team of Life Springs in Atlanta on one of their five mission trips there, but this will be RSUMC’s first trip. A 12-member RSUMC mission team is assembling to go with Life Springs. Culebra Island’s Jerusalem United Methodist Church pastor David Sanchez will welcome them.
“We will work with Life Springs Church on construction projects,” said Strickland. “The economic status of Puerto Rico is very poor. They felt forgotten by the United States and the United Methodist Church and that’s what sparked the first trip.”
To donate to the cause, mail checks to Rock Spring United Methodist Church and put “Culebra” in the memo section of the check. Mail to the church at P.O. Box 117, Rock Spring, Ga., 30739.
