Assessor experience, endorsements critical
Much has been said in the property assessor’s race to downplay experience in an attempt to downplay the endorsements of two former assessors whom candidate Sterling Jetton had served for 27 years.
I can think of no more meaningful endorsements than for two employers to say, “You have proven by your service and your character that you are the person I would like to replace me as I retire from this position entrusted me by the voters of Hamilton County.”
Experience and fulfilled trust really matter. Combined, Claude Ramsey and Bill Bennett have honorably served those who elected them for more than 30 years as assessors.
Downplaying the value of proven experience is understandable if a person making such a statement has never served a full term in an elected office before aspiring to advance to a higher one.
