Cummins, Peterson named Volunteer Stars
Bonnie Cummins and Eric Peterson have been chosen as Hamilton County’s winners of the 2015 Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards. They will be honored on Feb. 28, along with winners from other Tennessee counties, at the seventh annual Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards in Franklin, Tenn. One youth and one adult winner are chosen by the mayor of each of the state’s 95 counties as its representatives in the state competition.
Peterson volunteers with Samaritan Center, where he helps with bailing, dock work, pickups and other general projects.
Cummins has volunteered with Northside Neighborhood House for more than 30 years. She has served as a board member and in the Direct Assistance program. Each year she composes a letter for the NNH Christmas Program, asking for donations of toys and food. Last year alone, her letter helped raise $6,000 in donations. When a second NNH office opened in 2014, she volunteered to manage daily receptionist tasks there as well as mentor the new case manager.
