Casey Jones, the 2015-16 Southern Conference preseason player of the year, has decided to apply for a medical redshirt and return next season, he said Monday afternoon.
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior forward played in eight games this season, averaging 12.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists – all team highs. The Mocs, 23-4 on the season, are 17-2 since he dislocated his ankle on Dec. 11, the day before the team played at Dayton.
A two-time all-SoCon selection, Jones is the 21st player in the program’s Division I history to record 1,000 points, and the first player in school history to top 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 150 assists in a career.
He will join point guard Greg Pryor, guard Johnathan Burroughs-Cook, wing Tre’ McLean, forward Chuck Ester and center Justin Tuoyo as seniors next season with starting experience.
