Jarrod D. York Salon is at 6705 Highway 41 in Ringgold. New clients and walk-ins are welcome. Call 706-280-8510. “I do online scheduling through schedulicity.com,” said owner Jarrod York. “People can book appointments 24 hours a day online.”
Jarrod D. Salon’s floor is a sea of blue capped with complementary gray walls plus a barn wood focal wall. The space is filled with antiques and unique LED drop-lights.
Thirty people in owner Jarrod D. York’s Crosspointe Church small group transformed the salon, ripping out the old and putting in the new a few months ago.
York worked in the same spot when it was formerly called Hair Junkie. He was one of a few stylists. When one stylist left to start a new salon and the other two went to work for friends, he didn’t know what to do.
York’s church and two of his clients came to his rescue.
“One of my clients loaned me the money to do all the renovations,” said York. “I had several clients come in and help me with renovations. I had guys from Crosspointe Church coming in and prepping and painting and tearing stuff out and putting stuff in. We gutted everything out and spent two weeks in October on it.
“I couldn’t have dreamed it could come together that fast. I could not have done it without my clients and the church. It was pretty amazing. It was overwhelming to me how many people helped me get started.”
The barn wood on the back wall is 80 years old, he said. The dresser that sits next to it is 100 years old.
“I wanted it to look new, but I wanted barn wood and antiques for a calm relaxing feel so that men would feel comfortable in a salon and so that women would not feel like they are in a man cave,” York explained. “The furniture, I was going for more of an antique feel with a push-button finish on the chairs, wooden antique boxes stacked along the walls, an antique dresser holding products and an old antique crimp iron as a conversation piece.”
An antique shelf in the back holds Amika brand products that contain more moisture but are lightweight and have a variety of purposes: smoothing the hair, adding moisture on three different levels or offering thermal protection, for example.
“We have a full line of Vivid colors,” said York. “You name it, we’ve got it. We have purple, blue, pink, teal, green, silver, fuchsia, red, brown, black and blonde. Silver is a popular choice now. We offer hand-painted color techniques. You pick a panel of hair and paint it for a softer effect. We do a hot-towel treatment for guys when they come in. We do offer deep-conditioning treatments.”
Clients range from ages 2-70, he said. There are five stylists.
“The clients like the warm feel in here,” he said. “People want to come into an environment where they feel welcome. People comment on how much it feels like home.”
The salon has a complimentary coffee and tea bar that also offers hot cocoa, apple cider and water.
“We only book one person at a time we don’t double book,” said York.
