For anyone experiencing homelessness during this cold, wet season, below are some options for overnight shelter.
Chattanooga Community Kitchen:
727 East 11th St
There is no curfew for drop offs – if a person or persons are dropped off by law enforcement, a church, etc, they will be allowed in no matter what time of night.
Clients need to have ID. However, if they don’t, they will be accepted for the weekend, and will be instructed to at least obtain a temporary paper ID from Homeless Healthcare first thing on Monday.
When weather is this bad, this shelter is very low barrier and will essentially accept anyone. If necessary, they will call the police should someone become a safety concern (jail is still a safer option than no shelter).
Salvation Army:
800 McCallie
Salvation Army serves as an overflow shelter when the Community Kitchen has hit capacity.
There is no curfew for drop offs – if a person or persons are dropped off by law enforcement, a church, etc, they will be allowed in no matter what time of night.
It is open tonight, Jan. 23. For Sunday, call to check.
