A high-speed chase today in Hamilton County ended with one in custody and a car in flames.

Joshua David Oliver was arrested after leading police in a chase on Lee Highway and Hunter Road that ended with the suspect fleeing on foot from a flaming car.

According to a release from the Collegedale Police Department, an officer attempted to stop a Mitsubishi Eclipse on Edgmon Road for going 20 miles over when the suspect refused to stop.

The car proceeded down Lee Highway and the officer broke off the chase, but later a citizen on Hunter Road waved down Hamilton County Sheriff's deputies to show them where the suspect was hiding.

As officers approached, the suspect fled again on Hunter Road toward Harrison.

Collegedale officers then assisted Hamilton County with stopping the car when it returned to Garfield Road. The suspect finally crashed into a Collegedale cruiser and drove off into a ditch before trying to flee on foot as the car caught on flames.

Oliver was arrested at 5:37 p.m. and charged with felony evading, driving on revoked, reckless driving, and other pending charges.
