Walden changes term limits

The town of Walden is changing the concurrent two-year limits currently in place for the Board of Mayor of Aldermen to a staggered four-year system.

Mayor Bill Trohanis, Vice Mayor Thom Peterson and Alderman Lee Davis unanimously approved the change, saying it is difficult to get much done in two years.

Peterson said much of the first year is getting acclimated and acquainted with the system, and the second year can be taken up with campaigning for re-election.

Furthermore, the board agreed that the two-year system has made things more difficult for Town Recorder Fern Lockhart, citing that she is in “training mode” for much of the first year when it comes to new aldermen.

“The system struggles to provide any sort of continuity,” Town Attorney Sam Elliott said at the meeting.
