“I was his only chance.”
This is what motivated Amy Vanner as she struggled for a breakthrough with Adam, a 10-year-old quarter horse involved in Rally for the Rescues, a program for abused and neglected horses which took place last month. And the happy ending for her troublesome, untrained stallion made it all worth it.
A horse trainer based out of Apison, Vanner has been working with horses since she was 4, when she was first placed on the back of a horse. She’s been hooked ever since.
“I didn’t always have my own horse, though,” she said. “I would go to farms and just work for free so that I could be around horses since we didn’t always have one. I would do anything – fencing, cleaning stalls, really anything. Eventually I was able to get my own horse.”
