Rock Spring United Methodist Church is hosting its first Church Wide Missions Yard Sale fundraiser Saturday, June 4 at 8 a.m.

“If people have something they want to donate, we can pick it up,” said RSUMC Youth Director Brandon Neighbors. “They can drop it off June 2 or 3 too. Right now we’ve got couches, recliners, a deep freeze, pieces of furniture, clothes and cameras. People that donate to the cause can designate which church mission they want the donation to help.”

Clean and gently used items can be dropped off June 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or June 3 from 4-8 p.m. at the church, located at the corner of Highway 95 and Peavine Road. The day of the sale, hot dogs and drinks will also be for available for purchase. Proceeds will go to support the church’s 30-member youth group, mission projects and building fund.

“There’s three different areas of missions,” Neighbors said. “One is our youth group. One is the Culebra Mission Trip. The third mission the yard sale will help support is paying off the remaining debt of the Spring, a multi-purpose gym where we have contemporary worship and it hosts weddings, funerals and fundraising concerts.”

Culebra is an island off the coast of Puerto Rico that RSUMC’s mission team visited last year for the first time. The team plans to visit again July 18-25. A few people from the church will stay for an extra week to help even more, said Neighbors.

“The people of Culebra are grateful for the assistance they get from us,” he said. “They are wonderful people. You can see the gratitude of the people. They are way off the beaten path and not many people do service projects for them. It was cool.”

He said the mission team visited with 11 widows and made care packages for them.

“Some needed our help with home repairs,” said Neighbors. “Being down in the Caribbean, there’s a lot of rot. We donate supplies and labor to fix problems with homes. We try to help them repair damage to houses, particularly those that are older.”
