Members of the Kiwanis Club of Ooltewah-Collegedale are hosting their annual pancake breakfast at the Imagination Station Pavilion Sunday, June 12. Admission is $6 for the all-you-can-eat breakfast, which will be served from 8-11 a.m.

The local club has hosted a pancake breakfast for 20 years in order to raise money for the Thatcher-Whidden Scholarship. The scholarship is always given to an actively engaged and academically successful senior who is planning on attending college, said club secretary Brien Applewhite.

“This year’s scholarship winner had a 4.0 GPA, was a tennis champion and was highly active in the school,” Applewhite said.

Although the pancake breakfast does not raise huge amounts of money since it is all-you-can-eat for a low cost, he added, it does always cover the cost of the $2,500 Thatcher-Whidden scholarship, which is the fundraiser’s purpose.

“People should attend this event because it’s for a good cause; it’s supporting a student that wants to pursue a career in college to better themselves. Its a community event,” said Applewhite.

If there is inclement weather, the event will move indoors to the Fuller Room in City Hall, located directly across the parking lot from Imagination Station.

“The pancake breakfast will go on come rain or shine,” Applewhite said.
