Local author A.L. Gates, whose writing has been described as “the perfect blend of Stephen King and Shirley Jackson,” will have a book signing Saturday, June 25, for his second collection of short stories, “Scenic City Cafe, Volume 2.”

Set in Chattanooga, the 10 sinister stories showcase Gates’ skill for “cornbread macabre,” twisting human nature with Southern hospitality and the supernatural.

Several of his stories have been published in writing journals, and “The Chase,” which appeared in Volume 1, is a Chattanooga Writers Guild award winner.

Gates says he also will unveil the cover of his upcoming novel, “Jocko,” at the signing, which begins at 2:30 p.m. at Barnes & Noble, 2100 Hamilton Place Blvd.
