A 49-year-old man was found dead inside a home in Red Bank that burned down overnight.

The man, found inside 604 Bitsy Lane, has not been publicly identified because his family has not yet been notified, said Amy Maxwell, spokeswoman for Hamilton County Emergency Services.

The Red Bank Fire Department responded to a large fire at the home around 12:30 a.m. today when the homeowner called 911, Maxwell said.

The homeowner, who escaped unharmed, told authorities he awoke to the sound of popping and then discovered the fire.

Firefighters arrived to heavy fire coming from the attic and back of the house.

Red Bank firefighters called for additional responders and were aided by Walden’s Ridge Emergency Services, the Soddy-Daisy Fire Department and Dallas Bay VFD.

The home was a total loss with damages at a reported $175,000.

The cause of the fire is currently undetermined and the investigation is still ongoing.
