Keep an eye out for film crews in the North Hamilton area, because DGM Video Productions out of Hixson has set up shop and is ready to film.

DGM, which stands for Damn Good Movies, was founded by Tom Blanks, Ken McKinney and Shelley Williford. The trio has years of experience with video production from every position around the camera, they said.

The company has already directed and produced several short films, they said, and they have another on the way and are looking to expanding their business.

“We’ve got several scripts that we’re considering currently,” said Blanks. “We also take other people’s scripts, as well as producing music videos and commercials.”

DGM got started after Blanks and McKinney worked together on a project for the 54 Film Fest, a Nashville festival in which participants must write, shoot and edit a short film in under 54 hours. The duo won a number of accolades for their short film, and met Williford soon after at the Chattanooga Film Festival.

After reviewing a script by McKinney titled “Time,” the trio thought enough of one another’s skills to start up a production company, Blanks said.

“We’ve got a lot of equipment and experience on all sides,” he added. “Shelley [Williford] is an excellent cinematographer, and Ken [McKinney] has been in many short films and is great at sound and editing. We each have a section we’re really good at.”

The company is still young and growing, so the trio’s aim is to get their feet wet with more short films and establish themselves more through other film festivals in the Southeast.

“Right now we just want to build a good base,” Blanks said. “We’re trying to get into everything, which is why we’re looking to produce commercials for local businesses.”

DGM also provides sound and video editing services, meaning the trio can take a video from a customer and give the client back a polished product.

More than anything, though, Blanks said the team really wants to make some excellent movies people will enjoy.

“One of our scripts right now is just magnificent, but we’ll have to grow more before we can pursue it,” he said. “I’m excited about those kind of prospects.”
