One of the unique aspects of living on Signal Mountain is the annual traditions in which much of the community participates, including the Fourth of July parade through the Old Town neighborhood.
Parade participants will begin to line up in front of Alexian Village on James Boulevard and down Ohio Avenue Monday, July 4 at 9 a.m. The parade starts at 10.
“Bring your business, organization or sports team and join in the fun,” said Jeff Wishmyer, one of the parade’s organizers.
Many community organizations come out for the annual event, such as the Boy and Girl Scouts and the Sea Cadets, as well as nonprofits looking to raise awareness for their causes. Some ride in convertibles, trucks or trailers, while many families choose to walk or bike the route and bring along their pets.
After winding through Old Town, the parade concludes around 10 a.m. behind the Signal Mountain Golf and Country Club at Althaus Park, where the Signal Mountain Lions Club is holding its annual Fourth of July barbecue until 2 p.m.
This year’s festivities include music from bagpiper Michael Whinery and hammered dulcimer player Dan Landrum, according to Wishmyer.
