Twenty-one years after former U.S. Rep. Zach Wamp, R-Chattanooga, convened a “Science and Technology Summit” in Oak Ridge to bring together government, business and academic leaders to link research facilities in the region, the Tennessee Valley Corridor summit will meet for its annual summit this year on June 1-2 at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville.
More than 300 business, academic and military leaders from five states are expected for the two-day conference under the theme “Where Entrepreneurs and Technology Meet.”
The event is being hosted by Tennessee Tech University President Dr. Phil Oldham, formerly provost and senior vice chancellor of academic affairs at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and U.S. Rep. Diane Black, R-Tenn.
The Summit will include main sessions hosted by Andy Page, president and CEO of Oak Ridge Associated Universities, and Tom Jones, general manager and partner of Research Electronics International. Other speakers will include Earl Gohl, federal co-chairman of the Appalachian Regional Commission; Charlie Brock, president of Launch Tennessee; Joe Hoagland, vice president of stakeholder relations for TVA; Malcolm Portera, former chancellor of The University of Alabama System; Tom Rogers, director of industrial partnerships and economic development at Oak Ridge National Laboratory; John Howanitz, general manager of nuclear security and operations at Bechtel Nuclear, and Lonnie Lawson, president of the Center for Rural Development, among others.
