Comcast launches cloud-enabled video service in Chattanooga

Comcast customers can now access their favorite television show on any connected laptop, smartphone or tablet in their home and watch any show recorded on their digital video recorder remotely anywhere on a mobile device.

Comcast announced Tuesday it has added Chattanooga to the markets where the cable giant is offering the cloud-enabled video service.

The in-home streaming feature provides access to virtually the entire channel line-up on mobile devices and computers. The content is presented via the familiar X1 user experience.

“The way people consume video is evolving faster than ever, which is why Comcast has made this important investment in Chattanooga,” said Kerry McKelvey, Comcast’s vice president of sales and marketing. “The launch of X1 DVR with Cloud Technology sets us apart as Chattanooga’s most innovative service provider.”

According to the Consumer Electronics Association, nearly 46 percent of all TV households in 2014 watched video on a laptop, notebook or netbook, and 43 percent viewed videos on a smartphone. That’s up from 38 percent and 33 percent, respectively, from the year prior.
