White House dinner for Canada to evoke coming of spring

WASHINGTON (AP) – Thursday’s White House state dinner for Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (troo-DOH’) evokes the coming of spring.

And the Colorado lamb main course will be drizzled with Canadian whiskey before the roughly 200 guests dig in.

Toasted Texas pecans and New England maple syrup feature in the dessert cake. Guests will also pick from an assortment of petite pastries with American and Canadian influences as part of a sugar sculpture that was inspired by the Rocky Mountains.

Dinner will be served in the White House East Room and be the ritzy conclusion to Trudeau’s official U.S. visit. He’s been in office since November.

Singer Sara Bareilles (buh-REH’-lihs) is scheduled to provide the after-dinner entertainment.

White House officials previewed the dinner for the news media on Wednesday.
