As a music fan, it is easy to get excited about all the national acts that choose to come to Chattanooga these days. Especially when it is a band like Old Crow Medicine Show, who have continued to return to Chattanooga on a regular basis, building quite a fan base in the Scenic City.
But when bands team up with other buzzworthy artists on their tour, it gives that much more of a reason to go see the show. A prime example of this is happening early this month, as Old Crow Medicine Show, Brandi Carlile and The Secret Sisters all come together for full night of live music in downtown Chattanooga. And even though OCMS will close out the show, the addition of Brandi Carlile to this bill will certainly be a highlight of the night.
It is safe to say that so far, Brandi Carlile is at the highest point of her career. It all started over 10 years ago in Seattle, where she teamed up with the talented Hanseroth twins to make her mark. In 2005, she released her first album and got a few music media giants to take notice. However, that would not compare to the attention she garnered in 2007 with the release of her second album, The Story, produced by T Bone Burnett. But over the years, her music style has gone from a roots-rock sound to more of a folk or Americana feel. That same strong voice is there, and the Hanseroth twins are still with her, but the music has been dialed down just a little and you hear more of a country feel seeping through, with a highlight on her voice, the harmonies and the songwriting.
Obviously, this metamorphosis is working like a charm for the 34-year-old songstress. In March 2015, Carlile released her biggest album to-date, The Firewatcher’s Daughter. Not only did this album shoot up the charts faster and farther than her previous ones, she also earned her first Grammy nomination for Best Americana Album. Still reeling off of all her recent success, Carlile has not pumped the breaks on touring. And on Wednesday, May 4, Chattanooga is in for a Americana jubilee as Memorial Auditorium hosts Old Crow Medicine Show, Brandi Carlile and The Secret Sisters all on one night. Get there early. You will be happy you did.
