A 26-year-old man is dead after being shot multiple times late this afternoon, said Chattanooga Police Chief Fred Fletcher.

Authorities responded to a call about a person shot in the 4900 block of Jeffery Lane in Emma Wheeler Homes at 5:25 p.m. and found Orlando Gay suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Hamilton County Emergency Medical Services responded and transported the victim to Erlanger hospital.

Standing just a few yards away from lines of police tape that were blocking off the street, Fletcher said two men had been involved in a fistfight in a street which then evolved into a shooting.

He said the shooting does not appear to be gang-related.

One person of interest has been detained in relation to the shooting.
