Chuck Miller of Hixson Transmission and Total Care has made it a priority to work for the benefit of his community whenever possible, whether that’s his twice-a-year Free Inspection Day or providing food to the local fire station.

So when AC Delco selected Miller’s store as one of 15 in the nation to offer a Free Service Day in celebration of the brand’s 100th anniversary, he knew he had a great opportunity on his hands.

“They don’t tell us why or how we were selected, but we’re so appreciative,” he said, referencing the fact that his store was recently chosen to be on the AC Delco Car Care Council, providing feedback and information to help the auto parts company improve its national service. “We’re very blessed. To be selected in that small number out of thousands is phenomenal.”

AC Delco gave the selected stores a wide range of freedom in how they could use their Free Service Day. Miller said he had done charitable work with Cara Hicks and The MOMentum Network in the past, and wanted to do even more.

“Just a regular service day wouldn’t have been enough for us to do,” Miller said. So he organized an inspection day for applicants from the organization, which helps single moms attain higher education. Once determining what’s needed to repair their vehicles, the store will spend all day May 11 doing whatever’s necessary to fix the women’s cars, he said.

The shop is looking at about an average of $1,000 per car, said Miller, but will do as much work as possible for the applicants.

He added that one woman donated a car to the shop which they’ll be repairing that day so MOMentum can give it away to someone in need.

“A lot of people can’t afford this kind of work to be done,” said Miller. “We want to make sure that the folks in our shop are safe on the road.”
