Closed since August, the Book Nook at Signal Mountain Library is now open, with months’ worth of donations of new and used books available for $2 or less.

The Book Nook was closed for renovations to the library’s basement, where it now has its own room.

“The Book Nook has been reconfigured, and it looks wonderful,” said librarian Karin Glendenning. “It’s been restocked with special things we’ve been saving for almost a year.”

She said Sally Dickerson of the Friends of the Library, the group in charge of the Book Nook, deserves a lot of the credit.

As she added a stack of reference books to the shelves, Dickerson said people who have been to the Book Nook in the past will find it similarly organized. Nonfiction titles are still arranged alphabetically, making books of interest easy to find, she said.

The selection ranges from cookbooks and travel books to recent and classic works of fiction, and also includes titles for children and youth. Dickerson said new books are added each week.

The Book Nook reopened Monday, May 9, but Glendenning said the library is saving the cream-of-the-crop donations from the past few months for the June 4 reopening of the library’s basement, which has been renamed “The Gallery.”
