Gallery 1401, 1478 Market St., will hold a reception for local artist Mimi Herbert, whose works are in the permanent collection at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 3.

This solo exhibition will feature her sculpture and works on paper.

"Elegance," above, a 30- by 19-inch ink, twig and brush work on handmade paper, is representative of her work.

In 2002 the Smithsonian National Museum of American History acquired her "Tribute" sculptures created in the wake of the tragedy of 9/11, and she was the sole artist in the museum's memorial exhibition.

She also was commissioned to create a 175-foot Bicentennial Pennant sculpture that spanned the 17th Street facade of the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
