Walk away from GOP; party has failed state
As a longtime independent, I’ve believed an “R” or “D” by a politician’s name does not alone an idiot make.
However, Republicans have me confused. Not the circus in Washington but our 200 in Nashville. They heartlessly denied 280,000 people health coverage. Their insurance is taxpayer-funded. Tennessee ranks 45th for premature death because of treatable disease, 46th for adults with poor health-related quality of life. Multiple counties have filed lawsuits over education funding.
My Bible commands to help the poor/needy without cause or reason. It’s a cornerstone of the faith.
A Republican Executive Committee member resigned in disgust from the committee this summer, saying “the Tennessee GOP is nothing more than a small corrupt core group who view our party as their private club and personal piggy-bank.”
So, Republicans don’t like the poor/needy, school children, minorities, LGBTQs, immigrants or even each other.
It goes on and on. Folks, it’s time for a change. Our state and its people deserve better.

Joe Smith is the right man for Commission
Joe Smith came to my home in Middle Valley to give me his reasons for running for county commissioner. Below are some facts about this man’s character and abilities for office.
In 1991, Joe and his wife, Paula, began taking foster children even with two children of their own. They raised a total of 19. One of his foster children nominated him “Father of the Year,” which granted him the opportunity to carry the Olympic Torch in the 1996 Atlanta games.
In 1996, Joe was awarded “Family of the Year” for exemplary devotion to his family. Joe was general manager for the Memphis franchise of IBA’s semi-professional boxing league, World Series of Boxing and was also regional executive director of YCAP for 19 years.
Knowing these facts about Joe and based upon his dedication to care for all individuals (especially children), I would encourage you to vote for him on Tuesday. He is the right person for our great county.
