In 2013 it was a 7-year-old, in 2014 a 10-year-old, last year another 10-year-old.
So will the age of this year’s winner in the Chattanooga Times Free Press Holiday Wrapping Paper Contest be single- or double-digit?
Whatever the case, entries for the contest undoubtedly will make it another tough year for the judges.
In the annual contest, elementary school students are eligible; the winning entry will be a real sheet of wrapping paper that runs in the Times Free Press on Sunday, Dec. 6. The design also will be available as a gift-wrapping choice at Hamilton Place mall in Kids on the Block wrapping stations from Dec. 9 through Christmas Eve.
The winner also is awarded an arts package and a goody bag from co-sponsors ArtsBuild and Chattanooga’s Kids on the Block. Plus there’s a $25 cash prize.
Top entries will be on display at the Creative Discovery Museum.
Former contest judges offer this piece of advice: Make small designs that repeat themselves because they’ll look good whether the present is big or small.
The contest is open to students in grades first through fifth. Entries must be received by the newspaper by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23.
Along with the official judges, readers get to pick their favorite design through online voting, which runs from Wednesday, Nov. 30, through Tuesday, Dec. 6.
The winner will be contacted by Tuesday, Nov. 29.
