Park rangers are still investigating the death Monday of a 64-year-old Nashville woman whose body was found below the Day Loop of the Fiery Gizzard Trail in Grundy County.

The trailhead is at the south edge of the Tracy City's city limits. The incident was reported by hikers on the trail, according to officials.

Grundy County Sheriff Clint Shrum said in a statement that he, Tracy City Police Chief Charlie Wilder and park rangers from South Cumberland State Park went to the scene to find out what happened.

"The preliminary investigation appears to show she may have been looking over the edge of the trail when she lost her balance and fell to the bottom," Shrum said.

Coalmont High Angle Rescue officials recovered the woman's body which has been sent for an autopsy in the woman's hometown of Nashville.

Shrum said there were no signs of foul play and that the incident "appeared to be a tragic accident."

Park rangers are continuing to investigate the fall, he said.

The woman's identity has not yet been released.
