Last year, 1885 began hosting a monthly “Giveback Night,” during which the bistro selects different nonprofit organizations to support. Past examples include the Ronald McDonald House, Lookout Farmers Market and Lookout Mountain Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children. Then, the restaurant selects a day on which 10 percent of the restaurant’s proceeds is donated to that cause.
Now, on the advent of the giving season, 1885 continues to lead by example.
Its next Giveback Night is scheduled for Nov. 15 and will benefit the Connor Pullen Foundation, which has a mission that is twofold: to help raise awareness of pediatric respiratory health and to recruit more specialized doctors to move to Chattanooga. The idea is to bring new doctors to town and show them all we have to offer, and 1885 is certainly doing its part to woo out-of-towners through its weekly specials.
Every Monday, it hosts “Brews and Birds,” offering $1-off craft beers and domestic bottles along with $5 baskets of wings, which recently won first place in the Scenic City Wing Cook-Off in the People’s Choice division.
Every Tuesday from 4-7 p.m., it hosts its wildly popular “Taco Tuesday,” featuring a trio of tacos that cost $2.50 apiece, $5 cocktail shrimp, and $15 pitchers or $5 glasses of its craft margaritas.
Then, on Nov. 21, 1885 is holding a reservation-only wine dinner to help raise funds for the Partnership for Families, Children and Adults. Seating is limited, so people who are interested in attending will want to stay tuned on social media for ticket information. During the dinner, guests will have the option of completing the “Partnership Challenge.”
“They can give a nickel; they can give a dollar,” said 1885 co-owner Miguel Morales. “Whatever they want to give.”
Then, they will hold up a sign reading, “I met the challenge,” snap a photo and post it to social media, thus challenging others to do the same.
What began last year as a once-a-month Giveback Night is now helping 1885 conclude another big year of generosity, which, in turn, is helping the community – deliciously so.
