Byrd cites "Investing in People" as his campaign motto and said he is "very passionate about the concerns, safety and economic status of District 8."

He said he seeks to make the district a safer place to live, work and play.

"I've made a personal commitment to hear my community, address our issues and bring awareness to the residents and business owner's concerns," Byrd said in the announcement. "My mission is to provide District 8 with a unified voice while striving to improve its economic status, property values, and schools."

Byrd said addressing the district's issues and concerns will be a great feat, requiring everyone's help.

Elections for the Chattanooga mayor and City Council members will be held March 7. The Hamilton County Election Commission has announced early voting begins on Feb. 15 and ends on March 2.
