The Master Gardeners of Hamilton County will make the case for “Nurturing Our Trees” at the next installment in a free series of monthly gardening classes.
The program is scheduled 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Oct. 15, in the Agricultural Service Center at the UT/TSU Extension office, 6183 Adamson Circle off Bonny Oaks Drive.
The presenter is Hamilton County Extension agent Tom Stebbins, who says he’ll address multiple reasons for creating a tree-friendly environment.
“We usually appreciate trees based on characteristics such as the size, interesting bark, flowering habit, foliage color, fruit, fragrance or texture,” he says in a news release. “We should also understand that trees make important contributions to our yards and the urban landscape. Trees act as natural air conditioners, improve air quality by filtering out pollutants and soak up storm runoff. They also increase property values and even lower our blood pressure.”
The Education Committee of the MGHC offers these public classes on the third Saturday of each month. Next month’s class, on Saturday, Nov. 19, will focus on making holiday wreaths using live greenery. Space is limited to 30 participants.
To register for either class, email education@mghc.org, including your name, email address and phone number. For more information, find the group on Facebook or at www.mghc.org, or call 423-855-6113.
