Crestwood Garden Club will dedicate the Jo Lawrence Memorial Garden in ceremonies at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Camp Jordan, 323 Camp Jordan Parkway in East Ridge.
Lawrence, who died unexpectedly on Sept. 19, 2014, was a devoted Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs member who held various district and state positions and served as Crestwood’s president for eight years. Her last state chairmanship was the Blue Star Memorial Marker program, and the garden includes a commemorative Blue Star byway marker.
Lawrence’s favorite color was pink, so the garden’s six Kanzan cherry trees and many of its 53 shrubs were chosen for their pink blooms. Camp Jordan was one of her favorite places for club projects.
The garden will be jointly maintained by Crestwood, Master Gardeners of Hamilton County, of which she was a member, and East Ridge Parks & Recreation Department.
Those who’d like to attend the dedication are asked to RSVP to Dianna Mansfield, dgmansfield69@gmail.com or Maggi Burns at MaggiTFGC@epbfi.com. They also can provide information for making memorial donations to support future plantings and maintenance.
