A hands-on workshop in the thornless blackberry patch at Crabtree Farms, 1000 E. 30th St., on Saturday, Oct. 22, will teach the ins and outs of pruning and trellising, practices that can make a blackberry patch more productive, says the farm’s executive director, Sara McIntyre.
During the workshop, set for 10 a.m. to noon, she’ll discuss the life cycle and fruiting needs of blackberries, teach how and what to prune, demonstrate how to tie up this year’s growth, then set participants free in the patch to practice new skills (she’ll stay close to oversee and answer questions).
Bring loppers and hand pruners if you have them.
Cost is $5 for members, $10 for nonmembers.
To register, call 423-493-9155 or go to www.crabtreefarms.org (click on Connect, then Workshops & Speaker Requests).
