Joe Smith brings people together

When the editors of both the Chattanooga Times and the Chattanooga Free Press endorse the same candidate, it’s time to sit up and take notice. They have both endorsed Joe Smith for a seat on the County Commission, and they could not have made a wiser decision.

I have known Joe Smith as a friend and professional colleague for more than two decades, and he has earned my respect and admiration for his work ethic, his integrity and his ability to inspire others. He has a gift for bringing people together to work for a common goal, and his passion for his faith, his family and his community is rarely seen in today’s political arena.

A vote for Joe Smith is a big step in the right direction for Hamilton County government.

Martin is the most qualified candidate

Over the last four years, I was honored to serve my home community on the Hamilton County Commission representing District 3. On Nov. 8, we will head to the polls and vote for a new commissioner.

I believe I have a unique perspective on this race. I am friends with both of the candidates and consider them both to be fine gentlemen. Many have asked who I’m supporting in this race. While I’m only one vote of many in this election, my vote will be for the most qualified candidate – Greg Martin. He brings a balance of real world experience, a private business background and service on our school board to the table. He has worked with many in our community to make it a better place to live, work and play. Greg has made tough business decisions regarding budgets and personnel decisions. Most important – Greg has made consistent conservative votes on the school board.

I humbly ask my many friends and supporters to join me and my family in voting for Greg Martin as our next county commissioner.

Lookout Valley getting short end

As a parent, volunteer and coach in Lookout Valley, I was disappointed recently to learn our funding request to paint our building and bleachers was denied. This relatively small amount of money would have made a tremendous impact on the appearance of our facilities. Joe Graham and Chip Henderson continue to work to increase the funding support Lookout Valley receives; it is time the area receives its fair share. If it was not for the recreation board, parents and coaches who donate time and resources, our kids would not have a safe place to play.

This $2,500 request was only for materials; parents, coaches and the board were willing to supply the labor. This building has not been painted in more than 10 years; the last time it was paid for and painted by volunteers. I am sure Ooltewah High needed a new field striper, but the school has a booster club and other sources of revenue to help. Lookout Valley Recreation is used not only by our children but children from all over the area. It is time Lookout Valley receives the same support other parks receive. This is bigger than politics; it’s about our kids.
