The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men’s basketball team picked up a commitment over the weekend from Germantown High School forward Demarcus Mitchell.

The 6-foot-8 Mitchell’s nonbinding pledge makes him the Mocs’ fifth commitment for the 2017-18 signing class.

“First I would like to thank God for everything he has done for me and I would like to thank all the coaches that took the time to recruit me and all my friends and family who supported me through my basketball journey so far but I will be committing to University of Tennessee at Chattanooga #ReptheC #GoMocs,” Mitchell tweeted Saturday afternoon.

Mitchell has been described as a “beast on the boards” and a “high-energy guy.” His Germantown team went 26-4 in 2015-16, falling to eventual Class AAA champion Memphis East in the Region 8-AAA semifinals.

He also played in three separate events as part of the Adidas Uprising Gauntlet in Spartanburg, S.C., over the summer, averaging 6.3 points and 3.4 rebounds while playing for Team Magic Elite out of Memphis, the same team that point guard Jalen Crutcher, who has also committed to UTC, plays for.

Mitchell joins Crutcher, Baltimore guard Terry Nolan Jr. and junior college transfers Eric Turner (guard) and Joan Duran (forward), who prepped at Hamilton Heights, on the Mocs’ list of committed players. In addition, Iowa transfer Andrew Fleming and Xavier transfer Makinde London will be additions to a team that will lose six seniors after this season.
