A satiric piece of advice for Trump
With the shootings of innocents by gang-bangers across the U.S. and in Chattanooga, here’s some advice for Donald Trump. It’s a fact most killers are terrible shots; more often than not, they hit innocents in the way instead of their intended victim.
Meanwhile, the recent Olympics proves practice is necessary for athletes to become competitive. Why not wannabe punks, who are hard-pressed to hit the side of a barn with their guns?
First of all, take away basketball and weight-training in prisons. Replace them with shooting ranges, keeping the target distance 40 feet or less. As a parole requirement, each felon must show proficiency at hitting the target, a rectangle 6 feet high and 2 feet wide.
Many high schools now offer rifle teams; pistol shooting should be added. School attendance probably would rise. Apparently the only way killers hit their targets is when they shoot at close range, so if they are better trained, their results increase exponentially.
Is there a better solution to preventing hundreds of people dying from errant gunfire? While this is tongue-in-cheek, it gives the reader something to ponder while hoping to make America great again.

Trump hasn’t one Christian electron
A recent edition had a letter from a woman castigating Hillary Clinton as a liberal non-Christian, ignoring that Clinton has been a lifelong Methodist, a pretty conservative Christian group.
The letter writer also ignored that Jesus himself was not a conservative but a radical whom the conservative powers of the time, both Jewish and Roman, found dangerous and radical enough to execute.
Should Jesus return to Earth today, espousing the same values he preached in ancient Palestine, it’s likely our good evangelicals would hustle him back up on a cross faster than you can say “conservative Christian values.” At the last judgment, I fear many in this group will be shocked to hear, “Depart from me, I never knew you.”
In the letter, the writer put the last nail in the coffin by advocating voting for Trump, a person you could examine till doomsday and find not a single electron of Christianity in his being.

How about some balance to Rants?
I am so grateful to live in a country where all voices can be shared. That said, it seems the Readers Respond in Sunday’s Perspective section gives a little more ink for the ranting type folks. Why not add a “raves,” or any positively named space, for the glass half-full people to share?
It’s funny. I feel I have to read the Rants so I’ll know what’s on people’s minds, but dang! I always leave it feeling beat up and disappointed in so much negativity, sarcasm and hate-filled sentiments.
Can we add a little sunshine to the darker side of things?
