A question for pit bull owners and more letters to the editors

A question for pit bull owners

Pit bulls make up only 6 percent of all dogs in Canada and the United States, but 68 percent of dog attacks are by pits and 52 percent of dog-related deaths are by pits.

I have a question for the owners of these ferocious animals.

Do you enjoy seeing children, adults and animals maimed and even killed by your dogs?

Very troubling.

Desire for power Trump motivation

Many see Donald Trump as the logical end of the road for the Republican Party and perhaps for America’s constitutional government should its candidate win. The GOP has nominated and grudgingly endorsed a toxic candidate who has already shaken American society at its core. Lacking the concept of truth, Trump ignores it. Without the value of truth, a society or any individual cannot cohere. Chaos fills the vacuum.

We know nothing about Trump. He claims to be a billionaire but won’t show his tax returns. My guess is that he owes more than he’s worth, but this false claim cloaks him in power. And he does have power. I would call it dark and amazing power.

This interminable campaign season bears no resemblance to past presidential campaigns. It breaks with everything we’ve experienced in politics. It’s as if it exists outside history, outside reality, and thanks to media coverage, takes place in a senseless world, mostly inside Trump’s head. Public rational thought, conventional politics, a race between Democratic and Republican parties have been co-opted into a struggle between America and a powerful madman’s obsession with domination.

Fundamentalist killing continues

I read where Pope Francis, in reference to the killing of a priest in France by Islamist fundamentalists, said, ” killing in the name of God is satanic.”

Pope Francis should know. His Catholic Church has been killing people in the name of God for 1,700 years. The physical and mental abuse of humanity by the indoctrination of fundamentalist religions continues to drive the world’s ills. Add the many governments’ support of fundamentalism under the guise of “patriotism,” and you have the poverty and slavery of tyranny in the disguise of divine law.

I remember a patriotic slogan from the 1960s and the Vietnam war: “Kill a Commie for Christ.” Substitute the word Commie with Native American, Jew, free-thinker, agnostic, atheist, immigrant, infidel, heretic, etc., and fundamentalist claims of peace and love are viewed as what they are – empty, vapid and inimical to life.
