Ever since her eighth year at Signal Mountain Christian School, as a seventh-grader, Abby Souder has wanted to one day return to the school as a teacher.
“I made teacher rosters when I played,” said Souder, who is now a first-grade teacher at SMCS, and the first alum to become a teacher at the school.
On her desk, she keeps a photo of her own class picture as a first-grader, as well as a shot of the cast from one of her SMCS class plays.
“I have the photos to remember what it was like to be a child,” said Souder, who attended SMCS from kindergarten through seventh grade, the final grade offered when she left in 2007. “It’s a reminder that when I was here, I had no fear.”
She said what really sets SMCS apart is the small class sizes, ranging from eight to 12 students.
