Javon Wims eager to make the most of second and final season at Georgia

Last season was the learning curve for Georgia receiver Javon Wims.

This season is the swan song.

Wims had 17 catches for 190 yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs a year ago after transferring to Athens from Hinds (Miss.) Community College. The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder from Miami had all but two of his receptions in the second half of the season, but his totals were nowhere close to the 47 catches for 779 yards and nine scores he compiled two years ago at Hinds.

“Every competitor goes through once having everything go their way,” Wims told reporters following Wednesday’s practice, “but when you have to work and grind, sometimes you have to put down personal things for the betterment of the team.”

Wims had his best performance in last November’s 27-24 topping of Kentucky, amassing five receptions for 90 yards, including a season-long of 51. The Liberty Bowl triumph over TCU wasn’t bad either, as Wims made his third start of the season and caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Eason midway through the third quarter.
