Experts: Lack of remorse could bite ‘Pharma Bro’

NEW YORK (AP) – A securities fraud conviction has done nothing to quiet Martin Shkreli and experts say that could hurt the so-called “Pharma Bro” at sentencing.

A jury found the former pharmaceutical CEO guilty Friday of deceiving investors in two failed hedge funds he ran.

Afterward, Shkreli’s lawyer acknowledged that his client needs to break his habit of trashing critics on social. But within an hour, his client was live-streaming himself as he drank a beer and bragged about his wealth.

Former federal prosecutors say judges can factor in lack of remorse when they sentence people. They say Shkreli’s antics would be hard to ignore.

The 34-year-old defendant faces up to 20 years in prison for his conviction on the most serious counts, though the term could be much lower under sentencing guidelines. No date was set.
