When I moved to Chattanooga four years ago, Soho Hibachi was one of my first assignments as a food writer. Accordingly, I have imbued the fast-yet-fresh Japanese restaurant with nostalgia. Though, that isn’t the only reason I love it.

I also love Soho for its warm and sticky pork dumplings, crisp and flaky spring rolls, and vegetable udon stir-fry — featuring soft and plump noodles, mixed grilled vegetables, and aromatic, sweet-tasting broth.

Back during my first trip to the Fort Oglethorpe eatery, Soho was as new to the city as I was. In fact, in that first story, I remember writing about its “Grand Opening Special,” which offered teriyaki or hibachi chicken as a lunch special for $5.50 and dinner special for $7.75.

Four years later, Soho is a fixture in the area, having racked up a bevy of “Best of the Best” awards based on the votes of readers of the Chattanooga Times Free Press. The restaurant has also opened a second location in Hixson.

While Soho’s “Grand Opening Special” has been retired, in its place there is a new special offer: teriyaki or hibachi chicken as a lunch special for $5.95 and dinner special for $7.95. Sounds familiar, huh?

Indeed, while there is a lot to say about new experiences, there is even more to say about reliable recipes and time-tested places.
