Developers have too much sway in city
The Chattanooga City Council revealed its lack of concern for the well-being and safety of citizens by its actions in a recent rezoning case.
A local developer requested a zoning change to allow him to squeeze 27 homes onto a 4.6 acre tract in St. Elmo. The developer submitted his request to the Regional Planning Commission, which predictably recommended approval with no regard for safety and traffic concerns brought to its attention.
The matter went to the City Council. Predictably the Council approved it, also disregarding citizen concerns of increased traffic, congestion and the safety of neighborhood children, pedestrians, and bicyclists.
A written petition with 72 signatures of St. Elmo residents opposing the change was presented to the council. Members ignored the petition in favor of 10 votes favoring the change from the community association. I was present for this “majority” vote taken from a group of about 20 people.
The St. Elmo council representative had agreed to address my concerns about traffic with City traffic staff. He did not.
Longtime residents, elderly residents and sensible residents do not stand a chance when a developer in Chattanooga wants to make money.

Republicans only talk cutting debt
Are Republicans conning us?
The Republicans talk about the Democrats spending and increasing our national debt and wanting to increase our taxes, but is this the actual truth? Have the Republicans really tried to solve our national debt problem? In 2001, Republicans continued with reducing taxes, but they continued increasing spending. During the George W. Bush administration, the national debt and the trade deficit nearly doubled. Trillions more dollars of unfunded programs fell on President Obama to budget and pay for after he took office in January 2009.
Republicans know how to increase the national debt but are not willing to pay it off and are always wanting to cut income taxes while cutting benefits and public services helping the people. The increasing national debt apparently did not bother Republicans until President Obama took office. Since then, enemies of President Obama have been putting up a “farce front” and blaming the Democratic president for using the government to help.

‘Archie Bunker’ in the White House must go
My apology to Archie Bunker. He is a great guy compared to what we are confronted with currently. Recently there have been a few letter writers to the TFP who should be classified as deplorable as Hillary outlined it. These are people who completely destroy the concept of freedom and even move toward the tenets of the KKK. These people throw their support toward a man who has no moral or ethical standards, one who lies almost every time he opens his mouth, one who has no respect for women or anyone who takes issue with him.
None of this takes into account the fact that he has no political experience and no desire to acquire any. Lazy is the password! This man’s history only shows an ability to make money, and most of these developments carry with it chicanery such as what took place at his university. Never in my 80 years have I felt so hopeless for our country and its great heritage. I simply ask that everyone look at the facts surrounding this man and begin to think what we should do next to make the nightmare go away.
