A Chattanooga man has been charged with attempted first degree murder after he allegedly tried to run over a police officer in a Uhaul and led authorities on an interstate chase.
On Sunday afternoon an officer spotted David Jolley, 45, sitting in a Uhaul in a parking on the 300 block of Signal Mountain Road. The officer said Jolley was “sniffing” from a can of duster, according to court documents.
The officer approached the passenger side and ordered the driver out, but he refused and when the officer walked around front, he put the Uhaul in drive. He then drove directly at the officer and appeared to make a verbal threat while looking directly at the officer.
The officer managed to retreat back to his patrol car, but Jolley again drove directly at him before turning, circling the gas station and striking another vehicle. Jolley then narrowly missed the officer’s patrol car again as he exited the parking lot at a high speed.
Police chased the suspect for 21 minutes until he could be stopped and taken into custody on Interstate 75 northbound.
Jolley now faces 12 separate charges in connection to the alleged assault and chase on Sunday including reckless endangerment, evading arrest and driving under the influence. He has previously been charged with speeding in Hamilton County on seven different occasions.
His next court appearance will be on August 18 before General Sessions Judge Christine Sell.
