“Apparatus for a Dream Sequence,” a sculpture exhibition by Anna Campbell that takes ordinary objects and materials and presents them in unfamiliar ways, opens today, Aug. 31, in the University Art Gallery at The University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. The exhibit opens the 2017-2018 gallery season.
For example, a sign reading “fancy” is turned to face and press against the wall; the felt of a pool table is replaced by a bare mattress. Ordinary objects are appropriated and abstracted to generate new meanings and “new attachments of possibility and desire,” says the artist.
“Apparatus for a Dream Sequence” will remain on view through Oct. 13. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, noon-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Campbell will present a talk about her work at a reception on Friday, Sept. 15, in Convocation Hall at 4:30 p.m., which is open to the public.
