University of Tennessee at Chattanooga standout linebacker Dale Warren has been invited to participate in the Gridison Showcase Classic on Jan. 6-10 in Addison, Texas.

A six-game NCAA suspension cut more than half of the 6-foot, 220-pounder’s final college season, but Warren still finished with 35 tackles (five for loss), a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He had entered the season as a STATS Football Championship Subdivision third-team All-American after a junior season in which he had 91 tackles (19 for loss) and an interception.

According to the game’s website, the showcase and symposium “provides exposure and education for top college senior football players from around the country,” with players being evaluated by professional football league scouts.

Players will go through practices and a controlled scrimmage to scouts and executives from top professional leagues such as the NFL and CFL. They will also attend meetings, practice, perform individual drills and team drills, and in many cases have personal interviews with the scouts and executives from pro teams.

Strange gets honor

UTC freshman offensive lineman Cole Strange – who had never played the position prior to college – was named an FCS Freshman All-American by Phil Steele on Wednesday.

Strange was moved into the starting lineup prior to the Mocs playing Mercer and remained there over their final five games, a span in which UTC had some of its better offensive performances.
