Celebrations across the globe last weekend ushered in Chinese New Year, China’s biggest holiday. Creative Discovery Museum will continue the party with festivities marking the Year of the Rooster on Saturday, Feb. 4.
Guests can spend the afternoon constructing masks and puppets, learning how to use chopsticks and tasting a Chinese dumpling. Highlights of the day include two lion dance performances and a martial arts demonstration by the Chien Hong School of Kung Fu from Atlanta, as well as traditional Chinese dances and routines by Chattanooga-area folk dancers.
Liza Blair, the museum’s arts manager, describes the afternoon as “a rich and colorful arts experience” to help families explore the cultural traditions of this Chinese spring festival.
The museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Chinese New Year activities are scheduled between noon and 4 p.m. All activities and materials are included in admission.
