Itching to give your green thumb a workout?
Even if it’s too early to go outside to dig in the dirt, two local plant nurseries have terrarium alternatives planned Saturday, Feb. 4.
* Terrariums as Art Workshop: Signal Mountain Nursery, 1100 Hubbard Road, will host this program exploring elements of art under glass at 10 a.m. Participants will learn how to scale down the natural world to create a living centerpiece for home or office. Bring your own container, or shop from the store’s supply. Cost depends on the cost of materials used.
* Terrarium Make-and-Take Workshop: The Barn Nursery, 1801 E. 24th St. Place, will show how to garden under glass in separate morning (11 a.m.) and afternoon (3 p.m.) workshops.
The Barn provides the basics: container, pebbles, charcoal, soil, sand and plant material, though participants are welcome to bring their own container if they have one they’d like to use.
The fee is $35 per terrarium, though that can increase depending on the size of the terrarium and the number of special items added. Family involvement is welcome, but the stated cost is per terrarium.
More information on both events can be found on each nursery’s Facebook page. Or call Signal Mountain Nursery at 423-886-3174 or The Barn Nursery at 423-698-2276.
