Pickens County receiving $290,000 grant to improve road conditions

Donald Trump has vowed to rebuild the nation’s roads, bridges, airports and railways, but the path to delivering on that promise is full of potholes. When President Barack Obama tried to do it, a Republican Congress fought him at almost every turn, and Trump would have to contend with his party’s deep-seated dislike for government spending and higher taxes to meet the $1 trillion tab for his proposals. Pickens County in Georgia will be receiving a Georgia Department of Transportation contract of over $290,000 to improve road conditions.

The project will upgrade the signing and pavement at 21 railroad crossings in Pickens County and the anticipated completion date is May 31, 2018, according to a news release.

“Maintaining railroad intersections in North Georgia can be a challenge,” wrote Sen. Chuck Payne in an email.

“I am grateful to the Georgia Department of Transportation for recognizing what Pickens County needs. These projects will improve the safety of our roads for citizens in District 54 and ensure that our infrastructure is properly maintained.”
