A 43-year-old man accused of shooting a Chattanooga police officer in 2013 was sentenced to 10 years in prison today on a related charge.

Authorities believe Celvin “Squeaky” Houston shot Officer William McMillan in the thigh, groin and buttocks on March 12, 2013, in East Lake Courts. McMillan survived.

Houston has not been convicted of shooting the officer. Rather, a federal jury found Houston guilty of possessing a firearm on the day of the officer’s shooting.

He was sentenced for that possession charge today. In addition to the 10-year prison sentence, Houston will also complete a 500-hour drug treatment program and serve three years of supervised release.

Houston does face an attempted first-degree murder charge in the officer’s shooting in Hamilton County Criminal Court. That case is still pending, and Houston is schedule to appear in criminal court on Feb. 27.

The two courts operate independently.
